The symptoms of a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can vary from shortness of breath to chest discomfort to syncope or fainting. If you have a family history of this or sudden cardiac death at a young age, then you should see a cardiologist. If you are concerned, start with your primary physician and if there are any abnormal findings then see a cardiologist.
